SOWN President Renee McGlashan paid tribute to Gail and Ray Norval who officially retired as group leaders in November 2022. They had been taking care of the site since 2004.
Gail attributed her interest in bushcare to her parents who were both keen gardeners. Her father was a greenkeeper and later a gardener at the Brisbane City Botanical Gardens.
The land was once a dairy farm but still features remnant trees including a huge hard quandong Elaeocarpus obovatus.
Training and support is provided by Habitat Brisbane. A group leader doesn’t have to be an expert bush regenerator, just keen to make a difference.
