Our local schools helping to rejuvenate our waterways

During October, students from Mater Dei School at West Ashgrove, celebrated Arbor Day by spending time planting native grasses and wattles in the gully along Orchard Road at the rear of the school.

The event was part of the first stage of the new Orchard Road Rejuvenation project, which is being undertaken by Mater Dei in partnership with Brisbane City Council and SOWN.

Extra help is always welcome at our working bees

Join us next Saturday 16th November, 4pm at Fish Creek to help rehabilitate urban rainforest.

Activities include weeding, planting, chatting, making friends, and generally enjoying the outdoors. No experience necessary.

Wildlife update

You may have noticed more nocturnal activity by our local wildlife with the warmer weather recently.

One of our SOWN members who lives in Payne Road, The Gap, has had some interesting visitors in his backyard in the last couple of weeks. Some slippery, some slithery and some spikey.

SOWN AGM and Christmas drinks

Don’t forget we’ve got our Annual General Meeting and Christmas drinks next month. All are welcome to attend.

The SOWN AGM will be held at 4pm on Saturday 7th December at the SOWN Environment Centre, 98 Yoorala Street The Gap.

The meeting will be followed by Christmas drinks and nibbles.
