Next Members Meeting
As SOWN is now 20 years old, we are now old enough to learn about “The Birds and the Bees”. For our second meeting two experts have been invited to discuss these important topics. Dr. Tim Heard formerly of the CSIRO and lifelong enthusiast will talk on “Native bees and how to encourage their populations”. Our second speaker will be Mike West, former president of Birds Queensland, who will talk about bird species of the Enoggera Catchment and their environmental requirements (topic to be confirmed).
Our first meeting in this on-going series was a great success, we had 17 members attend and all appreciated Lyn Johnsons talk on invasive vine species. It is difficult to pick a time that suits all members and I am still looking for feedback on suitable times and topics for these meetings, or for any other helpful comments. The meetings are a means for all the members of SOWN to get together and discuss our common interests and for individuals to raise topics that they think may be of interest to other members. It is also a way for the members to keep informed of the activities of SOWN and to pass on administrative information that may be of interest.
Bringing a small plate was a popular idea and resulted in some very interesting nibbles at the first meeting, so we will continue this practice.
The Agenda of the next meeting will be:
At SOWN Club
98 Yoorala Street
The Gap
Commence at 10:30am
1. Talk by Tim Herd on Native Bees ( Tim has another engagement about midday)
2. Administrative announcements and interlude
3. Mike West’s talk on Local Native Birds and their environmental requirements.
4. Close.
We hope to see members and friends at the meeting. Additional enquiries, contact the meeting co- ordinator (Leo Lee) by email leolee1@bigpond.com or mobile 0409 536 533.
Future Members meetings will be held on the third Saturday of every second month.
