Mater Dei Dec 2009

Students at Mater Dei School at Ashgrove have been delivered a new outlook from their playground when they return in 2009. And its all thanks to Australia Post!

With the help of a Junior Landcare Biodiversity Grant from Landcare Australia and Australia Post, SOWN liaised with the school to remove woody weeds from a section of gully which carries stormwater to Enoggera Creek. The area was then replanted with suitable native species.

The project provided opportunities for students to learn about weeds and the importance of native plants for local wildlife.

Many thanks to the teams from Greencorp and Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA) who worked on this project, as well as Maggie Scattini who helped with weed control.

The CVA volunteers gave the project the thumbs up!

The once impenetrable mass of weeds, now cleared and ready for mulching.
