For all of that time, Kobus Havenga has been our nursery supervisor and main support person at the prison.
The SOWN-AGCC nursery partnership has produced over 840,000 high quality, native plants that have been distributed through the SOWN nursery and to other bushcare groups throughout South-East Queensland.
It has also taught countless prisoners basic nursery and horticulture skills.
SOWN recently made Kobus a Life Member in acknowledgement of his outstanding service and presented him with a life membership certificate.
SOWN nursery manager, Dick Harding, has run the prison nursery partnership with Kobus for the past 11 years.
At the presentation, Dick thanked Kobus and congratulated him.
“The prison partnership has only worked because we have people on the inside, like Kobus, who are dedicated to helping the prisoners and the environment. Over many years, Kobus has made a huge contribution to the work of SOWN,” Dick said.
SOWN also wishes to acknowledge the support of Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) and the Queensland Government in the operation of the SOWN-AGCC nursery partnership.
