January 2011 newsletter

SOWN Nursery has called on members to return wire trays urgently. Only eight trays remain at the nursery so we think that there are 60+ of the little blighters out there doing nothing. The Nursery will be opened Saturday morning 9am till 11am, so please, please, please bring in your trays.

Have you noticed that many Lomandra are covered in fruit at the moment? Members are urged to collect Lomandra longifolia fruit, in particular. We need the seed from the fruit for propagation. To test for ripeness, lightly shake or brush the seed head, if fruit falls off, it’s ripe. If you’re not sure of the identification, please read the article below. Don’t forget to mark the bag with the scientific name, location, date and your name.
