SOWN supports over 600 volunteer members across more than 30 local bushcare groups, nursery volunteers on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, students and corporate volunteer groups. To successfully conduct our nursery and bushcare activities, SOWN has strong working partnerships with Brisbane City Council and other community organisations.
SOWN recognises the health, safety and wellbeing of our volunteers is integral to the work we do. A strong and positive safety culture underpins our activities in working towards and shaping a healthy environment and sustainable community.
In March 2022, SOWN adopted the following Health and Safety Policy Statement:
At SOWN, we believe in creating a safe working environment for our members, volunteers and other people involved with our organisation, including project partners, clients and the public. Our strength in being a community ‘grass roots’ organisation is attributed to participation by the community. In carrying out our events and activities, we will promote a strong and positive safety culture that proactively identifies hazards and implements risk prevention measures to keep our communities safe.
