The aim of these works is to reduce the likelihood of flooding in surrounding areas. This will be achieved by undertaking dredging to remove silt, sand and gravel from the creek and removing mangroves from selected areas, as shown on the plan below.
To allow machinery and equipment to access the creek, a temporary ramp is planned to be constructed from the corner of Edgar and Victoria Streets. Some mangroves along this route will need to be trimmed. An environmental management plan will be followed throughout the works to minimise environmental impacts.
These works form stage one of the Enoggera Creek desilting and mangrove management project, which will ultimately improve the flood immunity of the creek between Bowen Bridge at Windsor and upstream of the Bishop Street footbridge at Kelvin Grove.
Timing of future stages is yet to be determined and will depend on funding allocation.
Work will generally be undertaken between 6.30am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday. Council will notify the local community if any works are required outside these hours.
