DRAGON Brachydiplax denticauda (LIBELLULIDAE) Palemouth

Damselflies & Dragonflies (Odonata)

Aggressive, strong fliers

Teneral Palemouths (newly emerged adults) can be quite variable in appearance, resembling gomphids and other dragonflies such as the Slender Skimmer. They had the characteristic perching habit of bringing the wings forward in two or three jerks, as they settled, a feature of LIBELLULIDAE. They were quite aggressive, strong fliers, but settling often, with the characteristic forward cocking of the wings characteristic of the LIBELLULIDAE. When held by the wings they would bite at anything that came within range.
