A clumping sedge with stems to 2 m. Stout tussock-forming perennial, in shallow water and on banks of streams and lagoons; widespread. Useful plant for erosion control and restoring habitat for water birds. Queensland Frog Society recommends Giant Sedge for the outer edges when creating frog ponds.
