Pyrazus ebeninus (Mud Whelk)
Pyrazus ebeninus (Club or Mud Whelk) ranges from northern Queensland to Lakes Entrance, Victoria. Found in large numbers on muddy estuarine flats. Collected by the crew of the Endeavour in 1770.
Large, elongate, turreted shell to 90mm with rounded whorls, and a flared rounded aperture. Exterior is dull dark brown to grey, aperture is shiny, interior is brown, becoming white towards lip, margined dark brown. Brown operculum.
