SOWN recently received a significant donation of bushcare gear from AECOM, an environmental service provider.

Director of SOWN Robert Whyte thanked AECOM for their generosity.

“SOWN members will certainly put the gear to good use,” he said.

The donation was organised by AECOM scientist, Carissa Free, who was keen to see it reused for a good environmental cause.

The gear includes:

  • a 440 litre Silvan vehicle mounted herbicide sprayer with two hoses
  • a brush cutter with safety gear
  • 5 backpack weed sprayers
  • hundreds of cane tree stakes and plastic tree protectors
  • hundreds of plastic tree bags (for growing larger trees)
  • 2 seedling trays
  • a wheelbarrow
  • 13 bags of gravel
  • heaps of plastic buckets

AECOM provides professional technical and management support services to a broad range of markets, including environmental.

It was ranked by Ethisphere as one of the world’s 110 most ethical companies for 2011.

The gear is for the use of SOWN members. It’s still being sorted and will be available from the Nursery, Wednesdays 8am-12noon, Saturdays 9-11am.
