A medium tree to 15 metres on fertile, well-drained soils. Phyllodes are dark green, alternate to 18 cm. Creamy-yellowish flower spikes to 6 cm in summer and autumn. Host plant for many butterflies, including the Tailed Emperor Polyura sempronius and the Large Grass-yellow Eurema hecabe.

Seed collecting and propagation

Put the seed in a crockery bowl and cover with water immediately off the boil for 2 minutes and then drain. Surface sow in a typical potting medium, keep moist, 25°C and as much sunlight as possible (AustraHort).
