A Year in Review


At the 2022 SOWN annual general meeting outgoing president Renée McGlashan presented a 40-page report SOWN: A Year in Review providing a detailed snapshot of SOWN’s activities, challenges and achievements in 2022.

Renée thanked all our volunteers, members, community and the funding bodies that support our nursery, monitoring, bushcare and events.

“We are partners in nature,” she said.

Highlights of the year were listed:

  • 74,621 native plants produced by the SOWN nursery
  • 50% of plants from SOWN nursery used within Enoggera Catchment
  • 3,551 nursery hours
  • 4 ‘Walk the Creek’ surveys
  • 1 butterfly survey
  • 11 nest boxes installed in The Gap
  • 362 Members
  • 35 Bushcare groups
  • >30,000 volunteer hours for bushcare
  • 5,000 native species planted over
  • 2 mega planting events with 200 volunteers
  • 2 corporate volunteer planting events
  • 1 Community presentation /workshop with UQ
  • 2,229 Facebook followers
  • 10 SOWN visits to schools
  • 1 school visit to Banks St Reserve
  • 1 bushcare immersion program with QUT
